• “Reading Stranger Threads, one gets a strong sense of the poet’s unique descriptive style and artistry. The poetry captures a vast landscape of our day-to-day lives with catchy devices. This is really an anthology that needs depth of reflection.”

  • MY HIGH SCHOOL FRIEND: [Fortune Munsaka]

Pardon me if this offends you.
I trusted you as my sister and a friend,
You protected me like your one and only.
At school you were my shield and shade.
And I was your faithful messenger to my cousin Lizwe.
All was good till I learnt your other side,
You begged me to hook out with Jabu the popular blesser,
You said his wallet will blow all my problems to the east,
And I was a fool enough to say oh’ atleast!
Now I’m lonely battling this thing in my tummy,
Ashamed to step my feet in class again.
I thought you cared for me,
But you left me all alone in this scary jungle.
You knew how to play it
Because you were an expert I should guess.
You said I should experiment only once,
But now my visits to the hospital are never ending. . .
You said this is how girls should grow,
But pain is now my harvest.
I thought you were my sister and a friend.
We had agreed to look out for each other,
But is this how you chose to look out for me?
Jabu takes my calls no more,
Mother says; I should go back to where I was last night
And dad swears never to see me in his yard forevermore. . .

  • Because I am a woman,
I should be put on your scale?
‘Woman’ to me is just a sum of syllables.
Dare dip me in boiling water,
    Like a teabag
The colour then defines how strong I am.

Let me see the world from my own position
    And correct man’s assumptions.
I am a leader in the office,
A caregiver with all the choices.
Shatter the glass ceiling is your head,
The buts in your definitions of me:
Woman is not an apology for your weaknesses.

  • My Country
    ( fortune munsaka )

I cherish the tales of my country,
And honor the dead with the songs they left me to sing.
    I cherish the Matobo Hills,
    The primal smoke of Mosi’aTunya.
    Admiring the cosmic handiwork
    That is Great Zimbabwe.

I am from the dynasty of proud kings,
Walk majestically across the streets of Lobengula,
    Salute Nyongolo and sing him
    Hyms of everlasting testament.

    Happy Independence Zimbabwe

  • “Stranger Threads” is not only a page turner but also a work that has left a mark on my soul. Some of the poems are not only emotional but also relatable and stir up a fire of hope in a person. I can read this anthology again and again just to enjoy the dive into the Pariah’s soul for there are a few works of literature wherein the author is this transparent. The girl child finds a voice here; the orphan draws his strength from this work and the Christian is given hope, which in no doubt among all things, the anchor of the soul.

  • FROM DUSK TILL DAWN

    From Dusk till Dawn
    I don’t blame on anybody
The sweet and gall life gave me
But take me back to my country.
I’m the problem of my environment.

    Picture me at ten
With the world on my shoulders,
    Blows to my stubborn head,
    Stinging names
    That made donkeys envy.

    Questions never answered
    I questioned God’s existence,
    Befriended the graveyard
    But they say the dead hear no tales;
Scriptures say the dead know not a thing.

    Take a look again!
My small head and thin neck
Squashed Like a grade two drawing,
    Only a 20-litre water bucket
I’m made to carry every other day.

    Barefoot like Tshaka’s warrior,
    My shorts, holes over patches,
    My teacher beats the poverty out of me;
Where does a boy hide when nothing is a game?

This world has no one to share my misery
But I pride in these footsteps.
For what I survived, I will live forever.

    1. Madam Tsumba, I understand that you have been in the Literature industry for a long time. When did you start writing and what motivated you to become a writer? Response

Thank you for this great opportunity. I started writing seriously when I lost my second son in November of 2010. I wrote a book about him called Unexpected. I found writing to be very therapeutic as I poured my painful emotions on paper.  Before then, I had written a few booklets just for fun.

    1. Youre the founder and president of Legacy Urithi International. would you mind sharing briefly on how you started such an organization? Response I remember sitting in a restaurant with 3 friends and I told them what I wanted to do, so we started brainstorming. That is how we came up with the name Legacy Urithi International – changing the next generation.

Urithi means legacy in Swahili. My books are something descendible that can be passed on to the next generation.

    1. What was the drive behind the establishment of this organization? Helping the next generation not to dilute ethical morals.
People are born originals but most die carbon copies. I write books that take people back to their original intended purpose for living.”

    1. I note with particular interest that LUI is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping people reach their dreams and fulfill their God given destinies.
How best do you help an individual to reach their dreams? kindly elaborate. Response People perish for lack of knowledge. I am encouraging a reading culture. I heard someone say – if you want to hide anything from an African, put it in a book. That is very sad. Children who read often and widely get better at it.
      Reading exercises our brain.
      Reading improves concentration. …
Reading teaches children about the world around them.
Reading improves vocabulary and language skills.
      Reading develops a child’s imagination. …

I had all the above in mind for individuals, both young and old.

    1. I come to note that your books are centered on a certain theme when writing, what is your targeted group mostly? Response

My targeted group is the next generation, and anyone who needs more information to pass on to their young people.

    1. What is it that is in your books that can change or “take people back to their original intended purpose of living”? Maybe a reference to one of your books may help. Response
      _
One of my books is called ‘How did I get here? Daily choices have consequences.
You reap what you sow, _good or bad.  You reap more than one. When you sow one cob seed, you reap two or three cobs with many seeds on them.

    What goes around comes around.

    1. How did the books ABORTION HAS CONSEQUENCES and STOP THE ABUSE come to be on such a level of broadcast? Curiosity is now killing me. Response On Monday, 5 August 2019, my 38th book, Abortion has Consequences was launched and graced by Her Excellency, _ The First Lady of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Amai Auxillia Mnangagwa at Mabelreign Girls High School with over twelve hundred  students. Stop the Abuse book – I launched this book during the Women’s awareness month and _Reporters found a juicy story.

    —-_

    8. I also come to learn that most of your writings are rooted in the Bible and I feel like you’re a God fearing woman who is mostly guided by the word of God. Which Church do you fellowship in, if you don’t mind to share. I might like to visit someday.

    Response

Being God-fearing has nothing to do with the church you go to. You just need a good bible believing church and there are many in Zimbabwe.  _Inbox me if you need further assistance.

Fearing God means that you keep in line with His will (the Bible), _ and are kept from grave sins. It gives direction to your life. It can lead to salvation,

    9. A very few people stay in marriage for such a long time. I congratulate you with Mr. Tsumba. But now my interest is on how Mr. Tsumba has been supporting your writing career?

    Response

    My husband is amazing.
He understands my work schedules. Sometimes I work crazy hours when I am in the writing zone.

He helps with all my book launches by doing all the multi-media and anything else I need.  I am eternally grateful.
My husband has very high standards and he helps by giving me professional feedback.

I am a blessed woman with a loving and caring husband.

    10. Any secrets you used in taking care of your family whilst writing such a number of books?

    Response

I am very organized so I make sure everyone is happy around the house, with sumptuous meals prepared, snacks on the table e etc.
I stop and take care of urgent/important things and always create time to catch up with my goals.

You create time for what is important to you.

    11. I see that your books have reached the highest level in the ministry of education, being used as supplementary material. What channels did you use and what stages did your books went through to reach such a big level of approval?

    Response

Purpose of education is to provide for the fullest possible development of each learner for living morally, creatively, and productively in any society.

Our ministry of education are doing an outstanding job in this area.  They are always looking for good materials for students.  You just approach them and if your book fits their curriculum standard, they are very _supportive.

    12. What obstacles did you encounter when you were writing and publishing all those 40+ books and how did you overcome them?

    Response

    Writing Obstacles were and are;
    Writing anxiety.
    Procrastination.
    Lack of confidence.
    Lack of productivity.
    Lack of _motivation.
    Perfectionism.

    How did I overcome?
I take some rest when necessary.  I make sure I get adequate sleep, and that I am not over-stressing myself.

Read, read and read . You can’t produce without consuming.  I read a lot.

I exercise regularly. Sometimes, the problem is with you being inactive.

    13. On a somber note, I understand you lost your child sometime in 2010. May you kindly accept my condolences? I can feel it was a painful situation. Would you mind sharing on how the experience changed or affected your writing career?

    Response

I found healing in writing about the experiences I went through.  The pain was so deep, I didn’t know what to do, and I then found solace in writing.  I use that book to comfort others now.

    14. I am much impressed by your written works. Do you mind having me getting a free copy of one of your books?

    Response

Not a problem at all .  I will give you my latest book, The Battle of the mind is real – as long as you help me to promote it.  Let’s help our people in these challenging Covid19 times.

    15. What words would you give to an upcoming writer who wish to be a reputable writer like you and what advice can you give to young* founders of organizations that are almost similar to yours?

    Response

    _Upcoming Writers take note;
    Read Read Read
    Learn Learn Learn.
Join the Writers Clinic.  _Inbox the _editor of this magazine for more details.

  • MR. F. MUNSAKA:
Greetings Mr. Bright K. It is good and of much pleasure to have you tonight in the CMA ship. Can you briefly tell the house Who is Bright?
    BK:
Bright k is an energetic young man talented in poetry, music amongst other things. By birth he’s Bright Kevin Rondozayi born in Mutare bred and buttered in the city of Kings and Queens BULAWAYO. He’s a poet, writer, actor and gospel musician by profession. Also a registered, and born in a family of 4 and a twin to his only she , in the family that is Beatrice.

    MR. F. MUNSAKA:
When I sip from your Bio which is so packed and loaded, Who makes the great Artist in you?
    BK:
Mmmh on that one l can simply say it is God that has made me a great Artist because without him l would be an empty artist. How ever am inspired by Frank Edwards, Dr Albert Nyathi and other fellow artists….

    MR. F. MUNSAKA:
Kindly share with CMA your journey as an Actor and a Musician and what inspired or kindled your flames in Poetry and Writing?
    BK:
My journey in these aforementioned activities been so tough you know. It wasn’t really so easy to come up with Bright k that we see today, at the same time it’s been so well as I’ve been learning a lot from being an actor , musician, poet and a writer. The journey l started in 2014 as a musician, later adopted poetry that was 2018 at the same time with professional acting as l used to act dramas at school etc, then l acted a movie titled Missing Grace that’s the best one l can mention amongst other movies, soapies and dramas that I have acted in. As for music itself I’ve been working with other artists likes of Rebecca Malope, Dr Albert Nyathi, King Adiza, Mzoe7 to name but a few, then as for poetry oh yah I have been writing some anthologies but so far l have published one and these other l simply work with other poets, and as for books, l have published one book as well but as for now I am bringing more on the table ,one l have published is titled Beautiful Paradise

    MR. F MUNSAKA:
What challenges have you faced as a professional artist since you ventured into this Industry and how possibly have you managed to conquer all those stumbling blocks?
At first the challenge was how do l reach out people with my message, through music, poetry, and my books. Then when l found out that there was also problems interms of; that at some radio stations they store and don’t play my staff though now slightly sorted, the other challenge was on finance to record, to have some events, to make copies of disc, books etc it’s been so challenging also as well to brand myself was also a difficult thing without that support from ones you know…other challenge was to reach out other artists but now sorted…other challenges been there just normal challenges kkkk, you know challenges builds a person so yeah am here today because of those and these challenges.

    MR. F. MUNSAKA:
Let me take you back a little bit. It seems you have travelled most parts of Africa. Can you take a general somebody like me who has never stepped out of BULAWAYO city…. How have been your experiences going outside the Country, I mean how has this even opened other doors for you in life?

    BK:
Mmh yeah it is so nice and interesting, yeah. Opportunities came along my way, through opening up and interaction neeh, so yeah I’ve been traveling through the music, poetry mainly then for China thing it was because of Karate but countries like Lesotho, Tanzania, Swaziland it’s been poetry and music taking me there.
So basically l can say it is literally by opening up and that interaction or let me say as artists we should have that intellectual stimulation you know, so that opportunities come along.

    MR. F. MUNSAKA:
Does your travelling mostly linked to your artistic movement or you will be attending to other businesses? And how has your exposure to other places abroad changed or influenced your life?
    BK:
It’s been mainly being an artist taking me places though places like South Africa it’s obviously visiting relatives and business that is music.
And yeah traveling has brought some changes in me as it has influenced me positively in terms of trying to know these languages likes of Swahili, Zulu, French, etc besides adapting to other environment as well working with new people.

    MR. F. MUNSAKA:
MR. Bright.. I note with particular interest that you are an Author of 3 books. Any titles and a short description to one of them
    BK:
    Ok l have :
    Beautiful Paradise
Songs of Human Soul and of Human Kind
    Dubekile Mntanam’
Tears and Joys of 21st Century and others
So will take this one Beautiful Paradise
It is about a couple in a relationship where there are a lot of serious challenges that leads to one’s death, it talks of reality , challenges within families, couple’s, friends and mostly l.alluded from the Bible on how a friend or loved one can betray you just like what Judas…did to Jesus.

    MR. F. MUNSAKA:
On a general note, I have heard a number of people who consult me on this subject of being an artist. Some say being an writer, actor, or a singer is a calling. If you can’t do it perfectly, it’s not yours. What’s your comment on that?
    BK:
Well that’s very true to me, it is true that it is a calling indeed but obviously one can argue and say as long one can handle it but l say to be able to handle it shows that it is a calling indeed. So yeah l agree. Also mind someone to do all that it’s bringing message to the society and the message has to bring a change sort of….

    MR. F. MUNSAKA:
Can you tell a bit, what is the relationship between Music, Writing, Acting. I’m asking because I’ve noticed that some of these genres hold high likes over others. Is there any link between these areas?
    BK:
Yeah there are links it’s all arts it goes hand in hand. Poetry and writing is just one thing, in poetry you take a big thing then make it small that’s why you can see l can write a small poem that summarises a book , then as for music it’s also the same as it consider one to write to say it….you Know.

    MR. F. MUNSAKA:
Should you not get me sued for saying you look like a Jake of all trades,or should I be polite enough to say you are talented. If someone had to ask you ‘How did you discover your talent(s) what would be your response to that?
    BK:
Lol l.can get you sued because to me it is a talent so one should be reasonable and be polite enough. l discovered all these as l played along those activities and when a thing is kinda easy to do whilst one can say it’s difficult, for me then one can pick up a point that it’s a talent.

    MR. F. MUNSAKA:
You’re a poet, writer, actor, musician and you travel places. Tell us, how do you balance all these things, I mean how do you manage your time to attend to all of this areas?
    BK:
I manage to do all these as I see them as one thing, it’s just in one basket so at once l pick one, then later one again till l have picked up all of them but it’s not a difficult thing because its just one thing it goes hand in hand….

    MR. F. MUNSAKA:
Let us not spend more time here, in case we’re wasting somebody’s time(giggling). But I’m forced to ask this:
I stay in rural areas, I am technologically illiterate or should I say I have no access to these smart gadgets. I think I have a talent in ,singing, dancing, Writing but I have nobody to Support me or show me the light. How best can you assist me since you are an established Artist.? My wish is to be big and have a name like you one day.
    BK:
Ooh great then l say you can visit my offices in CBD ,by Jason Moyo and 13ave _E. Marima buildings, Office 210 or simply inbox me then l can see where l can help you, if it’s not anything to do with gospel music am ready to refer you to best people who can take you afar…then if it’s about poetry and writing books am well ready to assist where l can…
I believe as who l am l can learn two or more things from anybody so am ready to have someone who wants to learn that little l Know as in the process l will also learn more so yeh feel free.

    MR. F. MUNSAKA:
Any last words to the one who is following this session right now and please leave your details where we can get intouch with you and possibly follow your works
    BK:
People, friends, mates and everyone,in what ever you choose today’ , choose it within your heart, let no one bring down what you have chosen. Let no man discourage you, for sure challenges, problems etc will always be there but “Never give up* and when tired better rest than to give up”
